Bircher muesli $8; L’affare coffee
Once known as Trekkers, CQ Hotels in upper Cuba St is one of the more economical hotels to stay at in Wellington (it is actually two hotels, the cheaper C and more expensive Q). And like most hotels it offers breakfast. You can choose from the usual help-yourself offerings or order bircher muesli and espresso coffee a la carte. The muesli is exceptionally good value for money and made me think that maybe bircher is not a bad idea at all.
The muesli appears to have been soaked in fruit juice and it is rich with nuts such as slivered almonds and pumpkin seeds. The yoghurt is nice and natural and the fruit was fresh melon on the day I was there.
The coffee was good and service fine as well. I didn’t see any newspapers to read though. The place can be busy during the usual peak breakfast time for hotels – around 8 to 8.30 it seems. On my visit I had to share a double table. All in all, if you like bircher, CQ Hotels is a good place to get a filling.
EXCELLENT value for money. Best to avoid weekday 8am to 8.30 slot. No newspaper to read?
